Enlightened Mentor Program was launched in January 2011 with a mission to help young men discover their potential. We implemented a simple strategy by asking those interested in our program “What do you want to know?” As the answers surfaced we understood each mentee is unique, although there were some similarities everyone had a different path to walk.
Once we compiled the data and created a curriculum we did a pilot program in March 2012 where eight young men sacrificed their Spring Break and spent five days in our Mentor Program in Tampa, FL. We focused on the importance of appearance, education, good posture, along with other subject matters. We also enjoyed activities such as bowling, fishing, basketball, and cook-outs.
In March 2013 it was decided to try it again. There was some level of difficulty, but we pursued with our 2nd Annual Mentor Program. We hosted a two-day workshop in Tampa, FL which focused on financial literacy. Young men learned the art of budgeting, saving, investments, and good stewardship. The event concluded with a weekend trip to Orlando, FL where the group secured accommodations at the Grand Reunion Resort. While there we visited the Disney Theme Parks (a must when in Orlando).
Our program provides the participants with an ongoing support network of peers and mentors. Utilizing seminars and extracurricular activities, our program emphasizes the importance of education, self-esteem, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Regular meetings and events are scheduled throughout the year so that we may continue to make an impact in the lives of the participants.
As we look to the future and realize the importance of mentorship we hope we can provide something to assist young men as they embark on their journey called destiny.
